Promoting Diversity in Law Enforcement Recruiting and Hiring

Pursuant to the December 2021 Attorney General Guideline “Promoting Diversity in Law Enforcement Recruiting and Hiring,” the Wall Township Police Department is committed to doing all that we can to hire staff who reflect the community that we serve. See N.J.S.A.52:17B-4.10. 2021 Census Data indicates that Wall Township’s population is 95.1% White, 1.8% Black, 4.0% Hispanic, and 1.3% Asian. As of December 31, 2021, the Wall Township Police Department had 69 sworn officers: 97% White, 1% Black, 1% Hispanic and 0% Asian. 6% of our officers are women. Currently our agency has a Conditional offer of Employment for a Hispanic officer to be sworn-in on June 8, 2022. To help foster our recruitment efforts, our agency participated in a job fair event held by the Monmouth County Chiefs of Police at Brookdale Community College on March 8th. In addition, an Administrative Supervisor recently attended a two-day course in Recruiting & Retaining the Next Generation of Law Enforcement, which covered how to successfully attract and recruit qualified applicants, including members of the minority community. Our agency will continue to enhance our recruiting efforts and participate in law enforcement diversity driven recruitment events to increase the number of female and minority candidates to join our department.
