Business Watch Program
WHAT IS BUSINESS WATCH?
Business Watch is a program designed to enhance security, increase observation, and to encourage mutual assistance and concern among businesses in Wall Township.
OBJECTIVES OF BUSINESS WATCH
To encourage mutual assistance between members
To increase crime prevention awareness
What we are trying to do is stimulate the exchange of information between members, Businesses and the police.
To promote crime prevention and increase standards for security
To provide an environment that is unattractive to criminals
To share best practices
To establish closer links between businesses and the Police Department to help sustain successful initiatives
Retail Establishments….
Retailers join together to watch for and report suspicious activity to the police. By building a means of communication, retailers can share other information, such as bad checks, shoplifters, and learn about crime prevention methods.
Business Offices….
Employees work together to promote safety and security practices in the office environment. Decreasing crimes of opportunity are a primary target.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
Call the police at once when you notice suspicious strangers loitering near your place of business, particularly around opening and closing times. When possible, note a license plate number.
If you witness some type of suspicious activity, do not hesitate to call the police. Never take for granted that someone else has called.
BURGLARY PREVENTION
Ensure the locks on your windows and doors are adequate to delay an intruder.
Keep your business well lit.
Do not stack items close to the exterior where a criminal can hide.
Consider installing an alarm system and/or surveillance system.
Train your employees in crime prevention techniques.

The program has the following benefits:
- Members have their business name and contact information listed on the town website as a supporter of the program.
- They will receive a window sticker for each entrance to their business.
- They will receive the Wall Township Business Crime Watch Monthly Report by email. The report contains announcements and news, police blotter items pertaining to the business community, enforcement statistics, and prevention tips for the workplace.
- Members are able to set up a booth for FREE during the National Night Out Against Crime Celebration each August. This is an excellent way to interact with our community members in a fun and positive way.
