Back to School Safety Initiative Begins

The Wall Township Police Department has started its annual Back to School Safety Initiative.  Over the next two weeks, the police department will be conducting high visibility traffic enforcement in school zones and in the areas of bus stops.  This proactive approach is taken by the Wall Township Police Department to remind motorists that the first day of school is coming upon us and to drive carefully within school zones.  In addition to traffic enforcement, mobile radar display units and mobile message boards will be deployed into our school zones.  Once school begins, patrol officers will be present at commencement and dismissal times as well as daily walk-throughs of the schools.

The police department conducted critical incident response and school safety training with Wall Public School staff members over the summer in preparation for this upcoming school year.  In addition to this training, the A.L.I.C.E. model for response to active assailant on school grounds will continue to be integrated into the overall critical incident response training for school staff members and students.  Also, the Wall Township Police Department will be conducting tactical training with the school security officers and integrating the school security officer’s response into patrol officers’ response.  These initiatives are part of the Wall Township Police Departments continued efforts to provide a safe environment for our students and faculty staff.

During the upcoming school year, the Wall Township Police Department will be conducting numerous community outreach programs that address bullying, safe driving and drug and alcohol awareness.  The Wall Township Police Department will also be conducting the following programs for students throughout the school year:

  • Share the Keys: Share the Keys is a parent-teen safe driving orientation
  • #NotEvenOnce: The “#NotEvenOnce” program is an opioid awareness presentation.
  • Operation Prom Night: Pre-prom presentation on good decision making and alcohol and drug awareness
  • Anti-Bullying and Internet Safety
  • The L.E.A.D. Anti-Drug Program
  • Otto the Auto: “Otto the Auto” is a presentation giving to the 1st grade and kindergarten class on the importance of car safety belts, bicycle helmets and the safe crossing of the street.
  • 911 Awareness: The 911 awareness program is presented to 1st and 2nd graders to teach them how to dial 911 and report an emergency.
