Vehicle Rollover on Highway 35

On Thursday, January 31, 2013 at approximately 12:36 p.m., the Wall Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision on State Highway 35 in between Lakewood Road and the South Wall Interchange.  On scene investigation revealed that Sean R. O’Leary, 24 of Ocean Gate was operating a 2009 Saturn Vue on State Highway 35 northbound when he struck a 1979 Ford being operated by Aron W. Larson, 60 of Point Pleasant, in the rear.  The vehicle being operated by Larson was then pushed into the travel lane of State Highway 35 southbound.  Larson’s vehicle was then struck by a 2005 Nissan UD Box truck being operated by Carlos L. Mendoza, 38 of Jersey City, which was traveling southbound.  The box truck then overturned and became lodged on top of the guardrail and concrete jersey barrier which separates the northbound and southbound lanes

State Highway 35, in both directions, was shut down between Lakewood Road and the South Wall Interchange for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.  Wall Township EMS, South Wall Fire Department, MONOC Paramedics, and New Jersey Department of Transportation responded to the scene.  Larson, Mendoza, and another passenger in the box truck, Edgar R. Salazalban, 44 of Jersey City, were all transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

On scene investigation conducted by Patrolman Jack Gramlich, Patrolman Miles Shanklin and Sergeant Chad Clark concluded that Sean O’ Leary was at fault in the collision.  He was issued a summons for careless driving.
