Description:
The School Resource Officer program
is a nationally accepted program involving the placement
of law enforcement officers within the educational
environment. This program was established as a
delinquency intervention approach.
Goals and Objectives:

Develop a rapport with students,
parents, and school personnel

Provide classroom D. A. R. E.
intervention

Strengthen safety measures on
school grounds
-
Present information on various
crime prevention and safety topics
-
Provide law enforcement resource
assistance

Identify and counsel problem
youth
-
Divert problem youth from the
juvenile justice system
Additionally the SRO will:

Investigate reported crimes on
school grounds

Apprehend those who break the law

Provide information on laws and
ordinances
Through these activities:

Help students, parents and
educators to develop a better understanding of the
role of a law enforcement officer

Create a more positive
understanding of the legal and judicial system
Note: SRO counseling is intended
primarily for students who are having some minor
problems at school or at home and is intended to
supplement, not supplant, the existing school resources
in this area. In addition to counseling and referral
services, the SRO provides additional resource
assistance to students, parents, and school staff.
