POLICE APPLICANT FACT SHEET

Monday August 13, 2007 UPDATE :   Wall Township Police Department is no longer accepting applications for the testing procedure that will be held on August 18.  Completed applications must be turned in by midnight August 15, 2007.

There is a physical examination scheduled for Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 8:00 am for the position of Patrolman. The test will be given at Wall High School (18th Avenue at New Bedford Road).  We also suggest you check this website periodically for updates & news.  For additional information call 732-449-8774 option 9.

In order to be eligible for these positions, you must adhere to the following instructions:

Requirements:

  • An applicant must be a United States Citizen and

  • Be at least 18 years of age but not older than 35 years of age at the time of this testing.

  • The applicant must have a valid driver's license at the time of the test. 

  • Applicants must have an accepted high school or equivalency diploma, recognized by the New Jersey State Department of Education, prior to taking the first stage of the examination. A Bachelors or Associate Degree is desired, but not necessary.

  • All candidates shall be of a high moral character.

Testing:

1)    Physical Examination:

The Wall Township Police Department will administer a physical examination .In order to take part in the physical examination, the applicant must submit a doctor's note indicating they are capable of performing strenuous physical activity, and a written application along with the waiver form. The note may be submitted to the Wall Township Police when the application is returned, or on the date of the physical examination. Written applications can be picked up at Police Headquarters at any time. If an application is not on file, or a doctor's note is not presented, the applicant will not be permitted to take the test.

The physical examination consists of a 1.5 mile run, push ups, sit ups, body carry, body drag, standing high jump, broad jump, pull ups and a flexion test.

2)    Written Examination:

Applicants that pass the physical examination will be invited to take the written test which is administered by the New Jersey Association of Chiefs of Police. After being invited to the written test, the applicant must pick up a study guide at Wall Police Headquarters. The study guide can be picked up at any time. To receive a study guide, a check or money order made out to Wall Township Police Department in the amount of $60.00 is required. This is non-refundable.  In order to take the written portion, the applicant must present a letter of invitation and receipt for $60.00 from the Wall Township Police. Failure to provide these documents will prevent an applicant from taking the written examination.

3)    Swim Testing and Grappling:

Upon passing the physical and written portion of the testing, candidates will be required to participate in a swim test and a grappling event to demonstrate weapon retention ability and swimming ability.

4)    Background Investigation :

Candidates passing the above testing will submit to a background investigation. Department investigators will review employment, education, financial, criminal, military and driving history, and other records and information for the purposes of determining the applicant's honesty, integrity, and general character. A large, in depth application will be completed at this point. 

5)    Oral Review Board: 

Superior Officers of the department will conduct an interview with candidates passing the above phases of testing.

6)    Medical Examination:

A medical examination will be conducted by the Police Physician. Applicants shall be in good physical condition with good hearing and vision. Vision should be at least 20/50 without aid and corrected to 20/20.

A Psychiatric and Psychological examination will also be conducted. 

List of Eligibility:

The most qualified candidates may be offered a position within the Wall Township Police Department.  Those candidates successfully passing all phases of the testing process will be placed on an eligibility list for a period of one year. Any additional hiring or openings during that time, said candidates would be contacted for possible selection.
